In 1920, few years after his canvas Le Passage Du Rhin, Hansi paint another piece of art where Germans comeback in Alsace.
Germans arrive with a determinate step on a bridge in front of two scared and confused Alsatian children. Children are the representation of French Alsace because of the tricolor flags. The bridge is already stamps on by Germans who arrive with big luggage. They represent all additions and all changes caused by the German occupation between France and Alsace. On them, we can read "Autonomy" in reference of the birth of the independence movement due to the delusion, "Stadt-Theatre" which coincide to the Alsatian theatre. The walking is lead by a Church man which refers to the main change : the end of the Concordat in France. Indeed, in 1905, when Alsace was under the German control, France decided to break the Concordat, and so separated the Church and the State. After the first World War, Alsace wanted to keep this privilege and still have it today.
