Listen to the audio guide

During his first year in Lyon, Jean Jacques Waltz discovered the Art Nouveau Movement, which will helps him to start in the public sphere.

Art Nouveau is a movement which appeared during the 19th century and blows a fresh wind of modernity on architecture, furniture, but also on paintings. Art Nouveau Painters try to valorize the curve's aesthetic, vision of the woman and the nature. The young artist  receives a command from the Burginas Company who asked him to design a medical sugared almond. He represented a sick women sited in a garden chair and front of her appeared a Woman-Angel who wants to give her some medical sugared almond to cure her. He clearly inspired himself from Art Nouveau ideas because there is representation of woman thanks to the sick person and the angel, but also the presence of nature because everything happen in a garden. Underneath the picture , you can see the final result on the box which were commercialized .

The second Art Nouveau Masterpiece of Waltz is the profile face of a young woman with a crown composed of flowers in a very natural and stylized landscape. This piece of art is the only one to have been draw with the pastel technique which consist to use dry pastels instead of paint. At the end the results looks more soft.
