This canvas was paint in 1934. The House Clauss or Haus zum Kragen is an emblematic house of Colmar. She was built by Clauss Sattman, the guy who made the decoration of the House Pfister.

Hansi used the Pointillism technique. This artistic movement appeared during the 19th century. It consist of an assembly of dots in order to create a full painting. George Seurat was the leader of this movement in France.

When he painted this picture, Hansi is inspired by his Parisian friends : Henri Rivière and Henri Martin, who were a painters and a pointillism's regulars. Hansi used a palette of blue. Nevertheless, we can see a little enlightened window with a yellow light placed in the darkest area of the canvas. We can understand this choice by a desire of contrast between the night and the light.

The House Clauss is for Hansi a good source of inspiration. Indeed, he already made a representation in 1909 with the etching technique. Etching is a form of print which consist to put a plate of metal in acid after drew the pattern wanted. The little enlightened window was already present on the etching.
